On 8th June, 2018, the WCARS Board President, Lamin M. Ceesay, closed the first WCARS project forum. The project forum which took place from 4th to 8th June 2018 in the Hotel le Marly in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, aimed at bringing the main stakeholders of the WCARS Project together for knowledge share ideas, interact with each other, share information and best practices about the project in their respective countries.
At the forum, activities carried out were shared and emerging issues related to the implementation of the WCARS project were discussed. Trainings were also carried out for participants while recommendations and resolutions were formulated.
Among the many changes and recommendations that took place include the substitution of old Trained Deaf Trainers (TDTs)with new ones and filling of vacated positions among the TDTs. Also highlighted more in the forum include the need for increased focus on female empowerment in the project countries.
Finally, the forum discussed the commencement of the “Local Activities Funds” (LAF) that can benefit local activitiesof the project countries.
The next WCARS forum will be held in 2019 in Bamako, Mali.
